LSU stays among 3rd tier

Despite high hopes, LSU failed to enter U.S. News & World Report’s list of the nation’s best colleges and universities released Friday. School leaders said last year that LSU narrowly missed the top tier and they were optimistic that it would happen this year or next. But the magazine’s view of the nation’s 130 best schools omitted LSU again. Every other public college and university in Louisiana was ranked lower than LSU. LSU again finished in the second cluster of major schools — it is called third tier – where the next 65 schools are listed in alphabetical order. All but three schools in the Southeastern Conference made the top list of 130. LSU, the University of Mississippi and Mississippi State University were in the third tier.
