LAST TWO DAYS EVIDENCE OF HAWLEY’S DESPERATION
COVINGTON, LA, Friday, November 16, 2007 – The road to become your next state representative has been a long one. In the final two days, my opponent has chosen to make the final days so oppressive in hopes that you will not vote. Instead, I hope you are even more driven to vote and to vote for John Schroder.
Ms. Hawley’s entire campaign has been one of deception. The latest attempt was a mailer that implied Governor-Elect Bobby Jindal is endorsing her. Rolfe McCollister, Jindal’s transition chairman, has said, “There is no endorsement, not even an implied one, in this race. It is symptomatic of those trying to ride Bobby’s coattails.”
Senator Tom Schedler, who has endorsed John Schroder, was authorized to say, on behalf of Governor-Elect Jindal’s transition office, “The Governor-Elect has made no endorsement or issued any authorization for the use of his name or picture with any candidate in this race.”
Another mailer states, “(Schroder) Had to ask the Ethics Board whether it was ethical to use campaign donations to lease office space from himself.” Unlike Hawley, who operates from the age it’s easier to beg for forgiveness than ask permission, certainly missed the entire point. Schroder was being ethical by asking for clarification and ensuring that he was following ethics rules and regulations to the letter.
Now, she’s illegally using the internet to send out email blasts that do not contain the appropriate legal information. All this is from a candidate who claims that ethics reform is at the top of her agenda.
Her last minute attempts are nothing more than a desperate attempt to confuse and mislead the voters of District 77. Schroder won the primary election and continues to lead in the polls. As a result, her unfair and unjust accusations are indicative of a candidate who is desperate to attack Schroder and his family for political gain.
From day one, Schroder has been the only candidate who has addressed the issues important to District #77.
